We thought it would be fun to share a few images of the massive selection of Jeep body tubs that we currently have in stock here at DriveOffroad.com. Our selection includes reproduction steel body tubs for models ranging from the 1941 Willys MB all the way up to the 1995 YJ Wrangler. Many of these tubs are official MOPAR licensed products featuring the authentic Jeep logo.

Starting with a new steel tub can save a great deal of time and money over repairing old rusty tubs. Feel free to browse the full selection here and let us know if we can help with your restoration project!

We were able to snap a few exclusive photos of the new Rugged Ridge Modular XHD snorkel and wanted to share those (as well as our pre-order offer for this hot new item).

CLICK HERE TO PRE-ORDER TODAY! Orders will begin shipping in June

This is not your daddy’s snorkel anymore. Dusty trail rides and deep water fordings, anyone who takes their Jeep off-road is likely to encounter these conditions someday. The new Modular XHD Snorkel System from Rugged Ridge relocates the vulnerable stock air intake location to help reduce dust clogged filters and the risk of hydro-locking your engine. It is the first and currently only snorkel designed with the modular functionality of a pre-filter Low Mount and Ram High Mount air intake design. Unlike other snorkels, you don’t have to give up flexibility for functionality.

Rugged Ridge – 3 Year Limited Warranty

Fits 07-11 Jeep Wrangler JK, 2 & 4 door models with 3.8L engine

High and Low mount complete system

Modular build, interchangeable functionality

Includes lower air cleaner box that mates and seals to the factory intake

NO cutting required in firewall, fender or hood

The engineers at Rugged Ridge worked with many customers to create this unique snorkel. This snorkel allows you to fold down your windshield, works with our dual battery tray, windshield light mounting tabs and light bar. Because what good is having a snorkel to cross the river, if you have to leave your lights and dual battery (to power your winch) on the other side?????
The Modular XHD Snorkel System comes standard with a Low Mount pre-filter and the Ram High Mount extension. The Low Mount pre-filter relocates the intake below the windshield, drawing cool air from outside the hot engine bay. The Ram High Mount extension moves the intake up an additional 21” to the top of the windshield. The two air intake mounts are easily interchangeable to give you the modular functionality best suited to your needs. The system is manufactured from premium thermoformed plastic, mandrel bent aluminum and hi-temp silicone connecting hoses. The built-in manual drain valves channel away excess water to prevent it from entering the intake system. This snorkel installs with minor modifications to the fender, but without the major cutting and surgery that other kits require. The new lower air cleaner box installs in place of the factory unit, so you don’t have to “hack and tap”.

The Rugged Ridge XHD Snorkel is available in high and low configurations:

We had the pleasure of attending the Tennessee Mountains Jeep Jamboree event held in Oak Ridge, TN last week and wanted to share some of our coverage. The event was a great time and featured 3 days of trail rides with over 100 Jeeps in attendance. We were able to document a day in each area that trail rides were held; Thursday’s ride with the blue group at the Coal Creek OHV Area and Friday’s ride with the white group in the Royal Blue Sand Mine area. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend checking out a Jeep Jamboree event near you. With over 30 trips planned in 2012, there’s sure to be one within driving distance and we know you’ll have a blast. Don’t forget to check out the huge selection of Jeep parts at DriveOffroad.com to make sure you are ready for your first Jamboree.

Check out a small selection of our photos below, but be sure to check out 300+ wallpaper sized images in our flickr gallery.

Jeep® has announced the details of their latest limited edition vehicle, the Wrangler Unlimited Altitude. The Altitude line was announced earlier in the year for other Jeep® vehicles (Grand Cherokee, Patriot, and Compass models), and now the Wrangler Unlimited will be a part of that group. The Jeep® limited edition vehicles have been quite successful in the past (previous versions include the Arctic, the Islander, the Mountain, and the Mojave), and the Altitude model hopes to continue that success.

Here’s what Chrsyler has to say about this new edition:

In response to Jeep® Wrangler enthusiasts’ continued desire for limited-edition vehicles – Jeep introduces its new, 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Altitude edition. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude is the latest Altitude model in the Jeep lineup, following the introduction of the Grand Cherokee, Compass and Patriot Altitude models last month.

Based on the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara model, the Altitude edition offers Jeep enthusiasts a Wrangler with a unique appearance that includes a body-color hardtop combined with a variety of black-gloss exterior appointments, and a distinctive black-and-red interior theme.

It’s scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms staring in May.

Only 4,500 Altitude edition Wranglers will be produced and they will have a $2995 premium over an Unlimited Sahara (which results in a MSRP of $34,640).

photos courtesy of Jalopnik

Jalopnik recently blogged about a couple of unique vehicles they were able to review while visiting Easter Jeep Safari in Moab earlier this month. The vehicles were designed and built by VWerks in Michigan, and the one of most interest to us was the Jeep Wrangler Recon. This vehicle started life as a 2012 Wrangler JK Unlmited but was then fitted with a JK-8 pickup conversion kit and then stretched 10″. This JK also featured a 390 hp Hemi motor swap, Kevlar armor, and a .50 caliber machine gun mounted to the roof for a bit of extra fun. Read on to see a few words from Jalopnik about the Recon:

Meet the VWerks Recon, which began life as a 4-door Rubicon, then, with the JK8 Wrangler-to-pickup conversion VWerks makes for Mopar, becomes an open topped military pickup. I tried it in Moab. It was very fast on flat spots (and with dual Flowmaster 40s, made a delightful roaring sound at full throttle), and on rocks, it didn’t even need to be put into low range to crawl up some pretty steep pitches. But just in case the Hemi’s brute strength isn’t enough, it comes with a twin stick Atlas transfer case for slow brute strength.

“People have been saying you can’t turn a Jeep into a 1-ton truck, and that’s what I did,” Muldoon said, adding that along with including Kevlar armor and a shell casing drain in the bed, he reinforced parts of the Jeep’s frame so that it can handle a much heavier load than a normal Rubicon. It also feels much heavier than a normal Jeep.

Recon’s axles are high clearance Dynatrac models typically used in much larger trucks — a ProRock 60 in front, and a Pro 80 equipped with a Detroit locker in the rear — and the little black beast sits on 39-inch BF Goodrich Krawler tires.

Muldoon said he had to study up to figure out the military machine gun mounts, which aren’t always as simple as they look. But they give the Recon a decidedly threatening appearance, and even got him pulled over by the Moab police when he first got to town.

“[The police officer] asked me one question,” Muldoon recalled. “Is that a real machine gun? When I told him no, you could see the tension drain out of him. Then he asked me if he could get his picture taken with it.”

For a full list of parts (and to inquire about getting one of these built for yourself if you really want to be prepared for the possibility of a zombie apocalypse), check out the details here.

Chrysler wanting to make a big big statement with its’ return to the Chinese market by unveiling the Year of the Dragon edition of the Jeep Wrangler at the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition later this month. Using iconic dragon style graphics very similar to a tattoo style design highlighted by gold color accents throughout the vehicle. The mythical creature adorn along the side and hood of the vehicle is very cool. Also sporting LED Lights these are pretty slick. I’m surprised they haven’t made these an option for new Wranglers. Overall it is a nice design I have to say this one of the better looking special editions they have put out. If you want to build your own Jeep Wrangler (JK) 2007-2012 check out our Jeep Wrangler Editions.

MOAB, Utah – BFGoodrich® Tires, in collaboration with Tread Lightly! and United Four Wheel Drive Associations (UFWDA), today announced the trails selected for its 2012 Outstanding Trails program. Nominated for uniqueness, terrain type and enthusiast following, the trails selected for this year’s program are Blanca Peak Trail in Blanca, Colo.; Mirror Lake Trail in Sierra National Forest, Calif.; and Bents and Dents Trail in Mount Olive, Ala.

Launched in 2006, the Outstanding Trails Program is dedicated to the responsible use and preservation of off-road trails while promoting the trails’ conservation efforts. To help with costs associated with the trail’s conservation efforts, BFGoodrich Tires will also present a grant to the associated off-road clubs at events throughout the year.

“We’re proud to see the amount of support and attention that the Outstanding Trails program has received over the last seven years,” said Renato Silva, light-truck brand category manager for BFGoodrich Tires. “We’ve met 29 tremendous clubs and their volunteers along the way, and all of them are equally passionate about spreading the message of responsible four-wheeling. It’s been great to work side by side with them to help maintain some of North America’s most beautiful trails.”

BFGoodrich® Tires 2012 Outstanding Trails

During the course of the year, BFGoodrich Tires will be at club events associated with these trails to highlight the uniqueness of each location and educate off-road enthusiasts on the responsible use of the trails. The clubs will also receive a $4,000 grant for preserving the scenic off-highway trail system and continue conservation efforts for three of America’s most beautiful areas for off-roading.

Blanca Peak Trail, nominated in 2011, is a rocky six-mile trail with many granite outcroppings. It offers many challenging obstacles, including Jaws 1–4, as well as views of the valley, Como Lake and spectacular mountain scenery. The trail is maintained by Creeper Jeepers Gang, a family oriented 4-Wheel Drive club, which promotes safe and environmentally sensitive off-road recreation and family.

Mirror Lake Trail, also nominated in 2011, is located in the Sierra National Forest about 13 miles east of Shaver Lake on Highway 168. The trail features beautiful lake scenery with steep boulders and large hills for the more experienced off-roader. The trail is maintained by Lock and Low 4-Wheel Drive Club, which promotes family four-wheeling and fosters safety and education of responsible four-wheeling. Lock and Low is an active member of the California Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs

Bents and Dents Trail is one of the premier trails in a vast trail system of extreme obstacles at Gray Rock ORV Park in Mount Olive, Ala. The trail is one of the most extreme and versatile trails at the park, with lines to accommodate vehicles with a variety of modifications. The Bents and Dents trail starts in a valley and winds its way uphill to a large rock garden area with various ledges and rock sizes. For the most extreme drivers and rigs there is an alternate line at the top end of the trail on the right side called the lunch line it is ridiculously steep and off camber. This trail, as well as many others in the area, is maintained by Central Alabama Offroad Society (C.A.O.S.), which promotes safe family oriented four-wheeling from mild to wild.

“For the past seven years, UFWDA has been honored to be a partner in this program alongside BFGoodrich Tires and Tread Lightly!,” said Todd Ockert, former UFWDA Director of Environmental Affairs. “The three trails and clubs nominated in 2012 are top notch, and it was personally a pleasure to nominate Mirror Lake Trail and the Visalia Lock and Low Club for this award. They are dedicated to maintaining Mirror Lake Trail and working well with the Forest Service to enable public access to Mirror Lake.”

About the Outstanding Trails Program

The BFGoodrich® Tires Outstanding Trails program was established in 2006 to raise awareness for responsible use and preservation of off-road trails while providing support in the trails’ conservation efforts. Through 2011, the Outstanding Trails program has recognized 27 off-road trails and 27 clubs across 16 states and two trails in Canada. The program has provided more than $100,000 in grants in support of the various trails conservation efforts.

Both Tread Lightly!® and UFWDA are non-profit organizations dedicated to responsible and ethical outdoor recreation. BFGoodrich Tires collaborated with these two groups to select the finest off-road trails and continues to work with these organizations on restoration and education initiatives.

United Four Wheel Drive Associations is the world’s leading representative of all-brand, four wheel-drive enthusiasts. UFWDA benefits, developed and tested over the past 30 years, include four-wheel-drive safety and awareness education; such user ethics programs as adopt-a-road, conservation volunteer and volunteer trail patrol; assistance with new club formation; education seminars to aid four wheelers through complex state and federal programs affecting trail access; internet forums designed to instantly connect members globally; and unlimited member access to its full-time legislative advocate and nationally recognized attorney who works exclusively for four-wheel-drive enthusiasts to protect access and prevent road and trail closures. For more information on the UFWDA log on to www.ufwda.org or call 1-800-44-UFWDA (800-448-3932).

Tread Lightly! is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to promote responsible recreation through ethics education and stewardship. Tread Lightly!’s strategic educational message, along with its training and restoration initiatives, are designed to instill an ethic of responsibility in outdoor enthusiasts and the industries that serve them. The program is long-term in scope with a goal to balance the needs of those who enjoy outdoor recreation with the needs of the environment. The federal government recognizes this by acknowledging Tread Lightly!® as a sole-source service provider of education and training on how to be environmentally and socially responsible while using motorized and mechanized vehicles in off-highway settings.
